Upgrade to ProMaximal Extractable Value (MEV) is the profit that block producers (or searchers) can make by reordering, including, or excluding transactions within a block. Common forms: DEX arbitrage (exploiting price differences between exchanges), sandwich attacks (front-running and back-running a large swap), liquidation sniping (being first to liquidate an undercollateralized loan), and backrunning (placing a transaction immediately after a profitable event). MEV is estimated at billions of dollars annually on Ethereum alone.
